For you who does Breakdance, does anything look familliar?

vintage blues breakdown dance
Originally from a Library of Congress public collection.
This item is in the public domain.

This is Joe Rastis, Denny Tolliver, and Walter Wilkins shot in 1894. Said to tbe the first African Americans to appear in a motion picture (the Edison kinetoscope). It was called buck dancing (prototap) and includes a breakdown. It’s pretty easy to imagine this leading straight into urban US dances of today. For a similar vintage clip, check out “Dancing Darky Boy” also on YouTube. Shot same year, same equipment (I think).
